New semester ! New beginning!

To any who would like to

So far I have 4 classes. There are about 26~28 students Each of the class.
The follwoing stages are my intercultural learning plan for next three months.

September: Getting to know each other:

In order to make the students familiar with the enviroenment, I hope they introduce themselves during the whole september on the blog "a day at my school." During the process, my students will work together on a self-introduction slideshow. It will take a week to complete it. Of course, your students can do the same things. That will help us to know you more!
I hope at this stage, students can have frequent interaction so Any feedback or questions are welcome!

October-November: Working on your own blog!

When they know the blog environment well, they can set up their own blog. Due to the time limitation, there are only two blogs in each class so that my students won't feel too stressed. It's not easy to set up a blog for my students, especially in English, which is a foreign language to them.
As I mentioned in the previous email, they will figure out what topic they will invite you to discuss.

At last, in December I hope we can exchange Christmas cards as the prefect ending for the intercultural project.

By the way, can you tell me your other email address.
I would like to invite you to coedit the intercultural blogs.

I'll update more information soon

So ...Keep in touch!

Warmest hugs

Ling

To Andrea and Carrie

Today I just sent the Chinese New Year Cards to you. Hope you would like it.:)

Ps: Andrea, did you receive the Christmas cards from my students? They mailed the cards with your students' name as the receivers, not yours, so I'm not sure if you can get cards.

Hello! We look forward to blogging with you this year

Hello!
First of all, thank you for joining the project in 2008.
And we enjoy a lot from your sharing.
This year, the last topic : School rule hasn't been discussed because of the time limitation.
In Taiwan, there are many school rules but students may don't know what the school rules is for.
So I think it is opportunity for them to reflect why we should follow some rules in school. And why are some of school rules different between schools while some are simalar!

After school rule, I think it may be interesting to encourage students to take a picture about their school life everyday or every week. And they can choose what topic they want to discuss!

What do you think?

Lunch Slideshows

Hello All! I'm sure by now you are thinking Clarksville, Maryland has fallen off the Earth. I promise we are working hard over here!

I'm finally back from the honeymoon and over my illness of the flu.

One of my classes has finished their PowerPoints that share about Lunch here at our school. They did quite a good job and I'll be posting these hopefully in the next 24 hours.

Also, my other class will be finishing up their PowerPoints about Recess here at school next Wednesday. Those will be uploaded sometime the following week.

We will also have some time in the next few weeks to really comment on the posts and other comments from the blog.

This project is really coming together and my students love what they are sharing.

Our last project to share will be skits that we will be recording and editing in iMovie to show you a bit about our school rules.

esnips

First of all! Thanks so much to Ling for setting up a folder on eSnips for us to download our files. I found out this week that all the great videos that you loaded in blocker are not able to be viewed during school hours.....however the ESnips website is good to go! Woohoo! I went ahead and added my Bio Podcasts about my students there today. If you have a chance to load some of your great videos that you have been making on there before next week I would love to be able to share them with my students.

We have been working on making webpages with screenshots about all the computer applications we use in our Technology classes. They should be uploaded sometime before the end of next week.

iTunes

Hello All,

Does everyone have iTunes that they can download things on? I found an easy way to upload my podcasts so that they are searchable and downloadable for free through iTunes. Let me know!

This may help solve the downloading and playing issues.

Next Project

Since I teach technology. My students are going to be working on writing webpages that tell about the different computer applications and what they can do with them during our technology class. I'm also going to be working with a small group to chronicle our school day. I'm hoping to have those posted by the end of next week.

The loading problem

Hello, everyone
Thanks for your sharing.
We are so happy to see your videos and that help us understand you more!
But I find a problem: The loading speed is too low.

My students told they have to wait for several mins to watch each movie.
So far the only solution I can think of is that maybe it would be better if teachers play the videos first and then show them to students.(The movie will go smooth for the second time)
I am planing to create a place for you where you can upload and download the videos.

Do you have any other ideas?

My Second and Third week

These two weeks my students and I were planning how to present our class through videos and presentation slides. We just finish videotaping and I' ll post the materials on the blog.
They really worked hard on thinking what you might want to know.
They scanned all textbooks they use in class and organized them with presentation slides.
And they also wrote the script for videos of introducing the chinese class and physical education class.
It's interesting to observe how they use multimedia tools to present their world though they are not really sure what they can do to help you understand them.

Besides, I feel honored to see your introduction on the blog. My students might be curious about your posts and ask you some questions, which may arise a intercultral discussion then.
Hope you will enjoy their works.
